International Union of Notaries

The International Union of Notaries (UINL) is a non-governmental organization bringing together countries with a "latin type" notarial system, having as its starting point the Roman-Germanic law. It aims to promote, co-ordinate and develop the function and activities of notaries throughout the world, in order to ensure, mediate and achieve a close collaboration between notariats of different countries, to ensure a quality service for the community. It was established on 2nd of October 1948, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, through the initiative of the Argentine notary Jose Adrian Negri. Regroups all countries where the notarial institution has public authority. It includes 83 members, from 4 continents. It comprises a General Council who has executive powers, a General Assembly of the member notariats and many commissions, including: - Continental commissions for: African affairs, American affairs, European affairs and Asian affairs. - Intercontinental commissions for: international notarial co-operation, advisory, themes and congresses, notarial social security, deontology and human rights.
UINL is represented in the UN, UNESCO, WTO, FAO, UNIDROIT, MERCOSUR, Hague Conference, Commission of the European Communities, European Parliament, Council of Europe, Court of Justice of the European Communities etc.
A total of about 40 roman notaries signed up as individual adherents at the International Union of Notaries.
